Acupuncture

At One Source Integrative Medicine we employ a more personalized, patient centered, whole person approach to healthcare, rather than a conventional, one size fits all, disease oriented focus.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of medicine that has its roots in ancient China and is still trusted in modern times by patients and the medical community. It is an in-demand procedure administered by qualified acupuncture specialists at One Source Integrative Medicine. Acupuncture works via the body’s natural healing systems. By inserting very fine needles into specific points on the skin, acupuncture stimulates the body’s own healing responses. When the needles are inserted, they stimulate pressure points in the body and release/stimulate a source of energy called “chi” or "qi." The belief is that chi energy needs to flow properly in order to relieve discomfort and restore function in the body.

Benefits of Acupunture

Feeling relieved, relaxed and most importantly with less pain or discomfort.

During the procedure the patient relaxes on a table--the only sensation is a bit of pressure as the needle is inserted, and sometimes tingling on the skin. It is being increasingly understood in Western medical terms and validated by clinical trials. Scientific evidence, which has been building up for the past 30 years, shows that acupuncture stimulates nerves which send messages to the spinal cord and brain, releasing the body's "natural pain-killing hormones", feel-good chemicals, and stimulating anti-inflammatory mechanisms in the body.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture reduces inflammation by interacting with the immune system.
Acupuncture promotes a relaxation response in the nervous system which promotes healing.
